Tell us a little bit about yourself! What are your hobbies? Why are you studying artificial intelligence? Anything else we should know?
Hi I am Arnav Kartikeya, a junior at Cupertino High School. I am mostly interested in cognitive and computer science, which is why I have chosen to learn more about the field of artificial intelligence. My main reason is to try and understand how us as humans learn and understand the world around us, and this can be done by creating models to see how an AI would learn. For me, AI is so interesting because of how we can use mathematical models to understand billions of years of development and evolution in the matter of a few minutes.
What was your AI Scholars experience like? Who was your instructor and what was it like working with them? What project did you work on?
My current experience as an AI scholar is amazing. I have been able to learn topics that I was struggling with in a matter of a few classes, and this is because of the constant, hands-on curriculum that we are introduced to. My instructor is Lucas Riotman, and it has been great learning from him. For any given thing that we are learning, we always are able to go very in depth about the topic, but also learn the commercial applications of them because of his experience in that field. Currently we are working on sentiment analysis of images of faces. We have tried multiple approaches to see which would give us the most accurate answers possible. It has been a great experience overall.
What AI topic will you be writing about in your blog? Describe your topic in detail!
For my future blog series, I will write about the applications of AI in cognitive science. This will be through projects that I have built myself and recaps from conferences I have attended on the concept. One of my future blogs for example will be about sentiment analysis through NLP and its use in determining how we can figure out how humans do the same thing.
Who is your target audience? Why should they be interested in your blog?
When I first started learning about cognitive science, I was lost. I thought that it would be something that only psychologists or neurobiologists would be interested in, and I never really saw the application of AI in the field. Because of it being a relatively small field, there isn’t much research online, and I had to go out of my way to try and understand more about the field. My hopes with this blog is to introduce those with a passion of AI to the field of cognitive science, or those who want to learn about cognitive science and its applications with AI.
